A variety of great snacks that are easy to make and not very expensive. These are ideas for birthdays or just a nice evening with friends and family. Warm and cold snacks that are easy to prepare and take you back to the 70's. We also have a few recipes for modern puff pastry snacks and fajita-wraps.
Easy to make and quite cheap:
Take a French bread, cut it in slices and cover them with:
- herb butter
- garlic butter
- egg salad, chicken-curry salad or any other kind of salad you enjoy
- smoked fish, like smoked trout, haring or salmon
- pate
- ham
- tartar with a chopped union topping
A little more work, yet a lot more exclusive:
- Filled half eggs: boil the eggs hard in about 8 minutes. Cool them and slice them in halves. Take the yolk out en mix it up with mayonnaise, powdered paprika and salt and pepper. Fill the egg-halves with the filling.
- Healthy fajita-wraps; take a wrap out of its package and heat it up in a skillet for a little bit. Put some lettuce, some cucumber, tomato, ham and some cheese on it. Add some mayonnaise if you like. Roll the wrap and cut into inch thick slices.
- Salmon fajita-wraps: Take a wrap out of the package and heat it up for a little bit in a skillet. Spread cream-cheese or garlic-butter on it. Add some lettuce and smoked salmon. Roll it up and slice it in inch thick slices
-
Puff pastry snacks: take the puff pastry out of the freezer and let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes. Cover them with:
- canned sausages
- slices of ham and cheese
- slices of salami
Roll the puff pastry. Beat an egg and brush some egg on top of the pastry-rolls. Cut it in slices and put them in a pre-heated oven at 350-390 F for about 10 to 12 minutes.
Old fashioned, simple, yet nice:
- slice of beloni with gherkin
- slices of cold cuts with half a hardboiled egg rolled up in it
- slice of ham with 2 asparagus rolled in
- cheese (cubed) with canned tangerine
- cubed cheese with small sweet union
- cubed cheese with pickle
- thick slice of salami with pickle
- sausage in all its varieties in rather thick slices (1/4 inch)
- toast with filet-american and a dab of mayonnaise
- slice of cucumber, with garlic sauce or aioli
Stick a little pick in them, maybe even with a little flag on it to get in the 70's and 80's mood. Very easy to make but perfect as it's always been over wine, beer or just a juice.
